Moroccan Mohamed El Morabity won the 37th Marathon des sables, a self-sustaining desert trail (250 km) made difficult by the heat of the Sahara. With less than 40.5 degrees Celsius, El Morabity beat his compatriot Aziz Yashou on the last stage.

The two men are in the same order in the standings. Mohamed El Morabity won this ultra-self-sufficient desert trail for the first time after finishing second to his brother Rachid five times.

“I’m so sad for my brother,” El Morabity said after his win. “He should have won but that’s how it is, next year inshallah”.
