Tobi Amusan Shatters African Record in Women’s 60m Hurdles at New Balance Indoor Grand Prix

Nigerian sprinter Oluwatobi Amusan has once again showcased her exceptional talent on the track, setting a new African women’s indoor record in the 60-meter hurdles at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston.

Clocking an impressive 7.75 seconds, Amusan’s performance surpassed her previous record of 7.77 seconds set in Kazakhstan at the Astana Indoor Meet in January.

Despite her remarkable achievement, Amusan finished second in the race, narrowly behind USA’s Tia Jones, who clinched first place with a time of 7.72 seconds.

Bahamian athlete Devynne Charlton secured third place with a time of 7.76 seconds. The race also saw history being made, as four women broke the 7.85-second mark, with Masai Russell finishing fourth in 7.84 seconds.

Amusan’s stellar performance comes on the heels of her groundbreaking success in 2022, when she became the first Nigerian to win a gold medal at the World Athletics Championships. Notably, she also shattered the women’s 100m hurdles world record en route to her historic triumph.
