Nigeria’s entertainment industry mourns the loss of one of its beloved veterans, Amaechi Muonagor, who has succumbed to a prolonged illness at the age of 62.
The sad news was confirmed by social commentator Morris Monye, who took to his social media handle to announce Muonagor’s passing on Sunday. The veteran actor had been battling kidney failure and undergoing dialysis treatments.
The sudden demise of Muonagor comes as a shock to many, especially after a recent viral video where he appealed for financial assistance to undergo a kidney transplant. Despite efforts to raise funds for his medical treatment, Muonagor’s health continued to deteriorate.
Expressing his condolences, Monye stated, “Deeply heartbroken by the news of Amaechi Muonagor’s passing. He was a talented Nollywood actor whose presence on our screens was truly masterful.”
He continued, “We watched with concern as he battled health issues, offering whatever support we could to help him seek treatment in India. This tragic loss highlights the need for better healthcare in our country.”

A native of Idemili, Anambra State, Muonagor was born on August 20, 1962. He made significant contributions to Nigeria’s film industry as both an actor and producer. In recognition of his talent, Muonagor was nominated for the AMVCA 2017 Best Actor in a Comedy award.
Muonagor’s journey in the entertainment industry began in 1989 after completing his youth service. He transitioned from his job at the News Agency of Nigeria to pursue his passion for acting, making his debut in the movie “Taboo 1” as Akunatakasi.
