Billionaire entrepreneur, Obi Cubana, has promised to sponsor anyone of African descent with a tech experience to develop a smartphone for the African market.

The head of the Cubana group revealed this during an Instagram live video, noting, “He has a crazy idea, one that he believes is a progressive one that he has since been meditating on.”

While interacting with fans via the Instagram live video session, the Nigerian billionaire promised to sponsor any African capable of rising to the challenge.

Cubana further reiterated his concerns about why there are so many tech-savvy young people in Africa, but no one who can create a brand like Samsung, Apple, and others.

The multifaceted investor promised to use his platform, Cubana Group, as the launch pad for the device and fund the entire idea and project. The opportunity will also be an avenue of job creation for many young Africans who are passionate about the technology industry.

He added: “I was just thinking, all these guys who are tech-savvy, young. I know you guys are out there, millions, thousands, dozens of you. But I wondered why you couldn’t develop a phone, a brand just like we have Apple, Samsung, this and that.

“Why haven’t we been able to… a black man, an African, a Nigerian man, create an affordable product, but with all the features like the one I’m using now to make this video live and say, ‘This was done by one of us, for all of us.’”

The Abuja-based socialite pledged to sponsor all Africans with the concept of bringing a cell phone with all the many features and more present in current smartphones, yet affordable and suitable for Africans.

He challenged young people to develop a phone with easily accessible features that, in his words, could be “made by one of us, for all of us.”

He continued, “When I see someone who claims to have the concept and the means to develop a phone, a cell phone. A guy who says, ‘This was made for us by one of us.’ And then let’s take a look. Sponsor the guy and bring what I need.”

“I turn to the tech guys. I want someone who can come up with an innovation and say, “Obi, I have all the features and more.”

According to him, the phone will be marketed across the continent and the profits will be used for other projects as well as charitable purposes such as donations to people in need.
