Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), was named one of the 100 Most Powerful Women in the World by Forbes magazine in 2022.
Forbes is an American business magazine owned by Integrated Whale Media Investments and the Forbes family with a particular focus on business, technology, communications, science, politics, and law.
The African Leadership Person of the Year Awards are vote-based and presented annually to high-ranking Africans who make a positive impact and promote a positive image of the continent.
Okonjo-Iweala got more than 60% of the 15,000 votes in the category at the close of voting on December 2, 2022.
“WTO chief Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala (#91 of 100) continues to play a crucial role in delivering financial aid and boosting global trade as the risk of a global recession mounts,” Forbes said.

It is recalled that Okonjo-Iweala was recognized as one of the World’s Most Influential People of 2021 by another media platform, Time Magazine.
This will be Okonjo-Iweala’s sixth honor of his career.
In response, Okonjo-iweala tweeted that she’s delighted with the awards she’s received in her career.
“It is an honor and privilege to be part of this list of a very special group of women for the sixth time in my career, congratulations to my other sisters.
Let’s continue to demonstrate that good governance, good public policy, and a people-centric approach to business problems.
The winners of the 11th edition of the award will be honored at a ceremony in Port Louis, Mauritius on February 16, 2023.
