Ilyasah Shabazz announced Tuesday, the anniversary of the 1965 murder of her father, Malcolm X, that his family is suing the FBI, CIA, the New York City Police Department, and other agencies for allegedly withholding evidence related to the murder.
Ilyasah Shabazz, 60, was two years old when her father, civil rights activist Malcolm X, was killed by three gunmen as he prepared to speak in New York.
She is joined by her sister, Qubilah, and her attorney, Ben Crump, at a news conference at the site of the former Audubon Ballroom in Manhattan, where Malcolm X was murdered 58 years ago.
Crump said the family is seeking $100 million in damages against state and federal government agencies.
Elisa Shabazz has filed notices that she intends to sue authorities, accusing US authorities of “conspiring and executing” her father, according to Reuters.

Muhammad Abdulaziz and Khalil Islam – who spent more than 20 years in prison after being wrongly convicted of the murder of Malcolm X – were acquitted after an investigation found they likely would have been acquitted if the FBI and the NYPD didn’t withhold vital evidence.
Both received $26 million from New York City and $10 million from New York State, for a total of $36 million.
Citing the 2021 acquittals, Crump said he “intends to pursue vigorous litigation on the matter.” He added that Malcolm X’s daughters and father were present when he was shot 21 times in the same room they met.
