The Culture Shock exhibition in Abidjan, Ivory Coast is a captivating exploration of the future of Africa, combining art and technology. It features the works of three talented Ivorian artists, showcasing a blend of traditional and futuristic artwork. The exhibition, hosted by the Adama Toungara d’Abobo Contemporary Museum, revolves around the theme of “illuminating the darkness of troubled times” and emphasizes that although “the world is changing,” the future remains uncertain.
One of the artists, Chula, has creatively displayed numerous masks across a prominent wall, representing the rich cultural diversity of Ivory Coast. His collection includes a mix of traditional and contemporary masks, serving as a tribute to the cultural heritage of people from all corners of the country. In a neighboring section, Cris D, another artist, presents vibrant paintings depicting African masks against a backdrop of vivid colors. He aims to use his artwork to educate the younger generation about the cultural wealth inherent in their heritage.
The third artist, David M’Bengue, takes a futuristic approach by showcasing two animated mini-films that offer insights into the future of African cities. Through his captivating 3D art, he explores various themes related to future architecture and urban planning. This thought-provoking exhibition encourages visitors to reimagine Africa in the 21st century, prompting them to contemplate the possibilities that lie ahead.
Culture Shock welcomes the public to experience its wonders until October 15, 2023.
