For years, students at Nuaso Anglican Basic School in Ghana’s Eastern Region faced an uphill battle in their pursuit of education. With a lack of proper classrooms, many had no choice but to endure a shift system that disrupted their learning. Their main classroom block had been destroyed by a devastating storm, leaving them to study in makeshift structures that barely provided shelter.
But that struggle has finally come to an end, thanks to the generosity of American rapper Ja Rule and the non-profit organization Pencils of Promise. Together, they have built a brand-new six-unit classroom block, ensuring that students now have a safe and comfortable learning environment. The days of overcrowded spaces and unpredictable learning schedules are officially over.
Ja Rule, known for hits like Always On Time, spoke passionately about his motivation for the project. To him, education goes beyond textbooks and lectures—it should include opportunities for creative and physical development as well.
“This is not just about putting up buildings; it’s about creating opportunities. Education, sports, and the arts all go hand in hand in building a brighter future,” he said.

His vision aligns with Pencils of Promise’s mission, which has been dedicated to improving education across developing regions. The NGO’s Country Director, Freeman Gobah, acknowledged that constructing the classroom block came with its challenges. The area’s terrain made building difficult, but their commitment to the project never wavered.
For the students, this new classroom block represents more than just bricks and mortar—it symbolizes hope. With a proper place to learn, they can now focus on their studies without the fear of being displaced by harsh weather conditions or overcrowding. Many students expressed their gratitude, knowing that their future now looks much brighter.
While Ja Rule’s impact on Ghana’s education system is undeniable, fans couldn’t help but ask—will he be returning to Ghana for a concert? The rapper remained tight-lipped, but left the possibility open.
One thing is certain: his promise to the children of Nuaso Anglican Basic School has been fulfilled, right on time. And if he does return, whether to a classroom or a concert stage, he will be welcomed with open arms.
