Ghanaian midfielder Abdul Salis Samed has made his long-awaited return to football, debuting for Sunderland in the English Championship after being sidelined for over eight months due to a muscle injury.

Samed’s journey back to the pitch culminated in an FA Cup third-round appearance against Stoke City. Entering as a second-half substitute in the 79th minute with the game tied at 1-1, his performance offered a glimmer of hope, even though Sunderland ultimately suffered a disappointing exit after a 2-1 defeat in extra time.

The 24-year-old had been out of action for a staggering 244 days, during which he missed 23 Championship matches. Despite his injury, Sunderland secured Samed on a season-long loan during the summer transfer window, banking on his ability to strengthen their midfield as they aim for promotion.

Samed’s return was a key moment not only for Sunderland but also for Ghana’s Black Stars, where he remains a vital asset.Ghanaian Football Star, Abdul Salis Samed Returns to Action After 244 Days on the Sidelines

Although signs of rustiness were evident, Samed’s brief time on the field highlighted his potential impact. He achieved an impressive 94% pass accuracy, completing 33 of 35 attempts, according to Sofascore. The Ghanaian also contributed defensively, recording two successful ground duels, a tackle, an interception, and a crucial shot block.

However, his return wasn’t without its challenges. A rare lapse in concentration allowed Stoke City forward Niall Ennis to capitalize, scoring the decisive goal in extra time.

While the result wasn’t what Sunderland fans hoped for, Samed’s return is a significant boost for the Black Cats as they focus on their Championship campaign. His ability to control the midfield and provide defensive cover will be instrumental in Sunderland’s promotion ambitions.

For Samed, stepping back onto the pitch marks the beginning of a new chapter, one defined by resilience and a determination to reclaim his best form. As Sunderland prepares for their next league fixture, all eyes will be on the Ghanaian as he works toward full fitness and match sharpness
