The Headies Awards, Nigeria’s premier music celebration, returns to its roots with the 17th edition taking center stage today at the Landmark Center in Lagos. After two years abroad, the event is back home, promising an electrifying night filled with performances from some of Africa’s most celebrated artists.
Leading the performance lineup are Afrobeats superstar Davido, the dynamic Yemi Alade, and highlife maestro Flavour. Joining them are talents like Juma Jux, Cubana Chief Priest, Nasboi, Chike, Shallipopi, Blaqbones, Niniola, Magnito, Qing Madi, Q-Dance, Brown Joel, Boy Pee, Hyce, and Ogechi Boys. This diverse roster underscores the rich tapestry of African music and its global resonance.
Davido, a five-time nominee this year, is recognized in categories such as Digital Artiste of the Year, Best Collaboration for “Twe Twe Remix” with Kizz Daniel, and Artiste of the Year. His hit “Ogechi Remix” featuring Hyce, Boy Pee, and Brown Joel is also in contention for Headies Viewers’ Choice and Afrobeat Single of the Year.
Yemi Alade, known for her powerful vocals and vibrant performances, is nominated for Best Vocal Performance for her song “Tomorrow.” Her recent endeavors, including the Grammy-nominated album “Rebel Queen” and her contribution to the animated series “Iyanu,” highlight her continued influence in the music industry.

Flavour, with three nominations, is vying for Song of the Year with “Big Baller,” Artiste of the Year, and Best Performer (Live) for his “Celebrating You 2023” concert. His blend of traditional highlife with contemporary sounds continues to captivate audiences.
The 17th Headies also introduces new categories: “Soundtrack of the Year” and “Best Performer (Live),” reflecting the evolving landscape of the music industry. This year’s theme, “Back to Base,” signifies a return to the awards’ origins and a celebration of Nigerian musical excellence.
