Dutch football star Memphis Depay, who has Ghanaian roots, has vowed to assist Kumasi Asante Kotoko in upgrading their training facilities. Depay made this promise during a visit to the club’s training grounds on December 26, 2024, while on a holiday trip to Ghana.
The Corinthians forward expressed concern about the state of the team’s pitch, describing it as unsuitable for fostering high-quality performance. He shared his admiration for the players’ resilience in training under such challenging conditions but stressed the need for immediate improvements.
“You guys train on these types of pitches; I respect that, it’s not easy,” Depay said. “The ball bounces too much, so it takes more time to control. But how can we resolve it? I’m brainstorming with everyone behind the scenes now that I’ve shown my face here, and I’ll try to do my best to make things change.”
In addition to his pledge, Depay revealed plans to organize a friendly match between Asante Kotoko and his current club, Corinthians. This initiative aims to strengthen ties and create opportunities for the Ghanaian side to gain international exposure and support.
Asante Kotoko recently announced a project backed by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the club’s life patron, to build a new training ground. Depay’s commitment adds to this effort, demonstrating the potential for collaboration between local and international football figures to elevate the team’s infrastructure.
