In a bid to bolster economic relations and alleviate international isolation, Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi embarked on a three-day tour of Africa, starting with Kenya.
During his visit, President Raisi and Kenyan President William Ruto signed several trade agreements, marking a significant step forward in bilateral cooperation.
Describing the visit as a turning point for both nations, President Raisi emphasized the importance of developing stronger ties between Iran and Kenya.
The signed memoranda of understanding focus on cooperation in information and communication technology, fisheries, animal health, livestock products, and investment promotion.

In addition to the trade agreements, Iran expressed its intention to establish a motor vehicle assembly plant in Mombasa County, Kenya. The move aims to enhance local manufacturing capabilities and boost the automotive sector in the country.
President Raisi’s tour will continue with visits to Uganda and Zimbabwe after Kenya. The Iranian leader’s visit to Africa signifies a renewed effort by Iran to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties with the continent.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanani expressed optimism that the trip could pave the way for expanded economic cooperation with African countries.
This visit marks the first by an Iranian leader to Africa in over a decade, following the last visit by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in 2013.
As Iran seeks to overcome its international isolation, engagement with African nations is seen as a potential avenue to garner diplomatic support and enhance trade relations on the global stage.
