Nigeria Secures Semi-Final Spot with Lookman’s Lone Goal against Angola

In a thrilling encounter at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium, Nigeria emerged victorious against Angola in the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final, sealing a 1-0 win and securing a coveted spot in the semi-finals.

Ademola Lookman, who has been in scintillating form throughout the tournament, netted the decisive goal in the 41st minute. Moses Simon’s electrifying run down the left-wing set the stage for Lookman’s clinical finish, marking his third goal in the competition.

Nigeria, making their presence felt, demonstrated resilience against Angola, who had their fair share of opportunities. Angola’s Zini hit the woodwork in the 59th minute, creating a tense moment, but Nigeria maintained their composure to emerge as the superior side.

With this victory, Nigeria advances to the semi-finals for the 13th time in their last 15 Cup of Nations appearances. The West African giants are now considered favorites in a tournament where many heavyweight contenders have faced early exits.

Looking ahead, Nigeria is set to face either the Cape Verde Islands or South Africa in the semi-final scheduled for Wednesday. The anticipation grows as football enthusiasts eagerly await the outcome of the quarter-final clash between Cape Verde Islands and South Africa.

Despite a valiant effort from Angola, who had never advanced beyond the quarter-finals in previous Cup of Nations tournaments, Nigeria’s goalkeeper Stanley Nwabili showcased brilliance early in the game, making a crucial save from Mabululu’s close-range shot.

Victor Osimhen, the African Footballer of the Year, experienced both frustration and elation. Although his 75th-minute header off a free-kick was disallowed after a VAR check, Osimhen’s impact on the game remained significant.
