Queen Njinga emerged from Ndongo and Matamba in the 17th century, when she ruled Angola and fought against Portuguese settlers.
Some confusion surrounds the correct spelling of the late Queen’s name, as several historians refer to her as Njinga, her original name being Ngola Njinga or her birth name Ana de Sousa.
Created by Kenyan-born storyteller Peris Owino and British diplomat Nene Iwoji, the show comes via Smith Westbrook Studios and independent film studio Notopia.
