Animated Show ‘Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire’ Wins Best Limited Series at 2024 Annie Awards

In a momentous victory for African animation, the tenth and final episode of “Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire,” titled “Enkai,” has clinched the coveted award for Best Limited Series Episode in the TV/Media category at the 2024 Annie Awards. This triumph marks a milestone for the pan-African anthology series, commissioned and premiered by Disney+.

Directed by Ng’endo Mukii, “Enkai” stands out for its captivating blend of visual styles, drawing inspiration from stop motion, CGI, and 2D animation. Mukii’s innovative approach to storytelling through magical realism themes proved to be both engrossing and fantastical. Reflecting on the episode’s creation, Mukii described the laborious process of achieving intricate details, particularly in terms of lip-syncing and animation techniques.

“Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire” received nominations in four additional categories at the ceremony held in Los Angeles. Its experimental visual feast, “Moremi,” was nominated for Best Direction and Best FX, as well as sharing a nomination for Best Character Animation with the episodes “Surf Sangoma” and “Stardust.” The penultimate episode, “You Give Me Heart,” was recognized for Best Character Design.
