Aisha Buhari, Nigeria’s First Lady, Apologises to Nigerians Over Economic hardship

The Nigerian First Lady, Dr. Aisha Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, apologized to Nigerians for the harsh economic realities and uncertainties experienced under the government led by her husband.

During the Juma’at prayer and public lecture marking the 62nd Independence Day in the conference room of the National Mosque in Abuja, Dr. Buhari said;

“The government may not have been flawless, but I would like to use this chance to beg for pardon from the ulema and Nigerians as a whole. To make Nigeria better, we must all cooperate.

She called on Nigerians to pray for a peaceful transfer of power in 2023, adding that citizens must unite to restore normalcy and peace to the most troubled parts of the country.

She urged Nigerians to pray for a good election and transitional plan since they may be aware that the current administration is going to leave office and that today may be the last independence anniversary of the administration.

“Your Excellencies, distinguished guests, it is also noteworthy that our naira is being evaluated and that the exchange rate has influenced our economy, posing challenges for our residents’ everyday lives in the areas of education, health, and other daily activities.”

Praising the efforts of security agencies in the fight against terrorism, she said that Nigerians “must come together and fight security challenges”.

To complement the government’s efforts to ensure citizens’ well-being, she said her office has launched many programs in areas such as agriculture, entrepreneurship and youth and women’s engagement to mitigate the impact and provide alternatives.
