Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – Tanzania has surpassed its tourism target, welcoming 5.36 million visitors in 2024, well ahead of the government’s goal of attracting five million tourists by 2025. This milestone, announced by Pindi Chana, the Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, highlights the country’s remarkable recovery and growth in the tourism sector.
Speaking at a stakeholder meeting in Dar es Salaam, Chana revealed that 3.22 million of the tourists were domestic travelers, while 2.14 million were international visitors. The sector generated an estimated Sh516.7 billion ($4 billion) in revenue, though it fell short of the ambitious target of Sh775.1 billion ($6 billion) set for December 2025.
The minister attributed the surge in visitor numbers to strategic government initiatives aimed at revitalizing tourism after the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Despite the impressive numbers, stakeholders at the meeting stressed the need for stronger collaboration between investors, travel companies, and government agencies to sustain the momentum. Discussions centered on strategies to further develop Tanzania’s tourism potential while maximizing revenue generation.
Chana emphasized that investing in sustainable tourism practices and strengthening partnerships will be crucial to ensuring long-term benefits for the country’s economy.
